Canyou vs Employment Hero: focused onboarding or a full HR suite?

Employment Hero is an all-in-one HR, payroll, hiring and rostering platform. Canyou does one job well: onboarding that gets each worker cleared to work and keeps them there, then syncs into the Xero, MYOB, Deputy or Cloud Payroll setup you already run.

Work rights checked with the Department of Home Affairs

Quick verdict

The short answer

Both handle onboarding, visa checks and certifications. The difference is scope: Employment Hero replaces your HR and payroll stack, Canyou plugs into the one you have.

In more detail

Where the two products differ

Visa check results in Canyou showing a valid expiry date, work entitlement and visa conditions

Work rights

Visa checks that stay on the worker’s record

Both products run VEVO checks. In Canyou, the worker enters their visa details on their phone during onboarding, your team runs the check with the Department of Home Affairs, and the result stays on their record. You get notice a set number of days before a visa expires.

Visa status, class, expiry and conditions

Every check kept as an audit trail

Apollo beside a calendar and alarm clock

Still cleared to work next month

Onboarding gets them into payroll. It doesn’t keep them legal to work. Canyou keeps watching visas and tickets after day one.

A Canyou licence reminder telling a worker their ticket is about to expire

Licences and tickets

Tickets tracked to expiry, renewed by the worker

Employment Hero records certifications and their expiry dates. Canyou ties licences to each position, so a new starter is asked for the right tickets from day one, and the worker is reminded to upload the renewal before it lapses.

Onboarding workflows

Role-specific workflows, from a QR code at the gate

Set up positions with the forms, licences and inductions each role needs. Put a QR code on site or a link in a job ad, and each person onboards on their phone, with “approve before starting” if you want to check them first.

Integrations

Keeps your payroll where it is

Employment Hero runs its own payroll. Canyou sends validated tax, super and bank details into Xero and MYOB payroll, connects to Deputy for rostering and imports staff from Cloud Payroll, so you don’t have to change systems to fix onboarding.
